Vertikl on iPhone

The iPhone app processes your clips on your phone. Nothing is uploaded to us, and there is no account. The app only reads the clips you choose, and it does not collect analytics or any other data about you. It keeps a few settings on your phone, like your chip layout and whether you've seen the tips, and these never leave it. If you buy Vertikl Pro, Apple handles the purchase; we never see your payment details or your Apple Account.

On the web: What We Collect

Video files: Uploaded by you, converted on our server, then automatically deleted after 24 hours. We never share your clips. Exception: while your clip uploads and is scanned, the app asks whether Vertikl can keep it. If you say yes, we keep a copy of that clip. See Data Retention below.

Analytics: Page views and usage events collected via Umami, fully anonymized, no cookies, no personal identifiers stored. Usage events include timings (upload, processing, export), clip facts such as size and resolution, which controls were used, which language the page was shown in, and how far down a page you scroll and how long it stays open, never the clip itself or anything that identifies you.

IP addresses: Our web server keeps a standard log of requests, including IP addresses, for 14 days to prevent abuse and fix problems. After 14 days the logs are deleted automatically. We do not use IP addresses to identify you and we do not share them.

On the web: How We Use Your Data

Video files are used solely to produce the converted clip you requested. Analytics data helps us understand how the tool is used in aggregate. IP addresses are used only to prevent abuse and fix problems.

On the web: Data Retention

Video files are deleted automatically 24 hours after upload. Analytics data is aggregate and contains no personal identifiers. Web server logs, which include IP addresses, are deleted automatically after 14 days.

If you opted in to let Vertikl keep your clip, we keep a copy of that clip beyond the 24-hour window, along with its filename, upload time, the game mode it was converted in, and whether you said yes in the app or on an older version of the upload form. We use these clips only to make Vertikl better at finding things like the minimap and health bar in future clips, which sometimes means we watch them ourselves. They are never shared, published, or used for anything else. You can withdraw a contributed clip at any time by emailing us, and we will delete it.

While a conversion is in progress, the app keeps a temporary reference to your job (a random job ID and access token) in your own browser's session storage, so an accidental page refresh does not lose your progress. This is not a cookie, identifies nothing about you, is never transmitted anywhere except back to Vertikl to resume your own job, and is discarded automatically when you close the tab.

The app also keeps two small flags in your browser's local storage: whether you have seen the first-run tips, and whether you have tapped the "remove watermark" option. They hold no identifier, are never sent to us as anything but a yes/no in an anonymous usage event, and you can clear them at any time by clearing site data for vertikl.fyi.

If you choose a language on our site or in the app (with the language menu, the language links at the bottom of the page, or the "this page is also in..." bar), or close that bar, your browser remembers the choice in its local storage under the name vertikl_lang. It holds only a language code, such as "ja" or "en". It does two things. First, it sets the language the app opens in. Second, it sets which language our home page suggests: the home page itself always stays in English, and the bar offers the stored language. If you close the bar, we store "en", and the bar does not come back. If you pick another language, the new choice replaces the old one. The code holds no identifier and is not sent to us; our analytics only sees which language a page was shown in. It stays until you clear it. To remove it, clear site data for vertikl.fyi. If your browser blocks storage, nothing is saved for your next visit.

If we sent you a personal early-access link, the app also keeps that link's access code in your browser's local storage so you don't need the link again. It is sent to us only when you check or use it, so we can count how many watermark-free exports it has left; our analytics never sees it. On our server we keep a scrambled (hashed) copy of the code, a short note of who we gave it to, how many exports it has used, and when it expires. While one of your exports is running, we also hold a temporary note pairing the scrambled code with that job's random ID so the export is counted exactly once; that note is deleted the moment the export finishes, fails, or is cancelled, and the job itself is deleted within 24 hours. Beyond that, we do not link the code to your clips, your IP address, or anything else. To remove it from your browser, clear site data for vertikl.fyi; to have us delete our record, email us.

On the web: Analytics

We use Umami, a self-hosted, cookieless analytics tool. Umami does not use cookies, does not track you across sites, and does not collect personally identifiable information. Because Umami is cookieless, no cookie consent banner is required under GDPR.

Your Rights

If you believe we hold personal data about you and wish to request deletion, contact us at support@vertikl.fyi. Unless you opted in to clip contribution, uploads are gone within 24 hours and there is typically nothing to delete. For contributed clips, tell us roughly when you uploaded and the clip's filename and we will remove it.
